Quetta, the capital of Balochistan (1692m) lies at the mouth of Bolan Pass. It has three large craggy mountains, Chiltan, Zarghun and Kohe Murdar that seem to brood upon this pleasant town. Quetta can rightly be called the fruit basket of Pakistan. The Quetta-Pishin-Zhob valleys are literally covered with fruit orchards and are lovely to visit in spring which is the season of blossoms. Mastung, Nushki, Loralai, Gulistan and Quetta itself grows best varieties of apples, pomegranates, peaches, pears, cherries, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, chilghoza, musk-melon, water melons and grapes. This region is equally rich in natural resources as well.

After 1935 Quetta is little away from the historic attractions. The two museums though very small are both worth a visit. The bazaars meanwhile are colorful and lively and have a wide range of antique jewelry and traditional handicrafts on offer, both Balochi and Afghan. Before setting off a journey to Quetta it is advised to contact the local authorities or a tour operator who can tell you exactly about the law and order situation in the province, whereas there has been some trouble caused by ethnic riots.
